Ben Way – Head of Butler Sherborn Equestrian previews the Team Way Horses for 2023 Season

Ben, Associate Partner of Butler Sherborn, looks at the prospects for the coming eventing year
The horses came back in from their holidays just after Christmas, and their pre-season fitness and conditioning work is in full swing. At this time of year, they all get a full ‘MOT; which includes visits from the dentist, physio and chiropractor. Our competition season starts in March and runs through to October. We have got an exciting string for this season, with a good mixture of older horses establishing themselves at the higher levels, and some younger horses moving along, together with some new faces.
Having finished the season at Blenheim last year in the 4* Short 8/9 YO Class, our two top horses, Gun Law and Annsfort Simba will be heading to Ireland in the spring, for another 4* Short. They will then be aimed at a 4* Long later in the year. The aim for these two horses is to start ticking the qualification boxes for the 5* events, like Badminton. Our national Young Horse Championships have, this season, moved to Cornbury Park which is such an impressive venue, made even better that is sits in the Cotswolds!

Rural Sales - Market Comment
The national farmland market in 2024 was the busiest it's been for some years. It was influenced by a General Election, anticipation of CGT changes in the Autumn statement, and, following that, the unexpected proposed changes to Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief.
